Triathlon 101

The Basics

Triathlon combines swimming, biking and running at various distances. We will start with the super sprint, or sprint. The shorter distances. Super Sprint- 350 swim/ 6 mile bike/ 1.5k run. Sprint: 750 swim/ 12 mile bike/ 3 mile run

You do all three in one race, but don’t let that intimidate you. Every athlete started somewhere, and most began as swimmers, runners, or athletes from other sports who were simply curious about trying something new.

Triathlon is about learning, growing, being consistent, and challenging yourself a little more every day.

What Equipment Do You Need?

You do NOT need fancy equipment to get started.

Here are the basics:

  • A bike

  • A helmet

  • Running shoes

  • Swim cap

  • Goggles

  • A Garmin watch

The Garmin watch helps track training and allows me to monitor workouts and progress through TrainingPeaks.

As athletes grow in the sport, we can discuss additional equipment later, but this is enough to begin training and racing.

How Coaching Works

I coach athletes both remotely and in person. Ohio athletes can plan on meeting up at races during the summer!

Remote Coaching

I currently work with athletes in multiple states and have extensive experience helping athletes train remotely. Remote coaching works very well for athletes who are disciplined, communicate well, and are ready to consistently do the work.
